The Groot Picnic Family Fun Day Charity Event

A family-friendly picnic in a pretty place for a great cause

Nestled in the mountains, surrounded by verdant vines, the sprawling lawns of Groot Constantia provide an idyllic spot for a picnic and some good old-fashioned family fun. This is exactly why Chic Mamas Do Care, a non-profit organisation committed to sustainable fundraising for education projects in disadvantaged communities, selected the estate for their Groot Picnic Family Fun Day charity initiative, happening on Saturday, 6 February 2016 at 11am, in support of early childhood development (ECD) in Vrygrond, a township near Muizenberg.

ECD is often not given the attention it deserves, yet it’s a crucial part of a child’s overall education. ECD refers to the educational stimulation of children in their formative years, which forms the basis for their continued development. If a child is not adequately immersed in play and other opportunities to learn, then this could affect their cognitive, physical and emotional development, with severe implications for their school years and adulthood. Thus, the Groot Picnic is not only fun, but it also draws attention to a key sector in need of funding.

With something for the whole family, the picnic will have a pop-up shop and local food on-site, along with wine for parents to indulge in whilst their little ones delight in the kiddies’ play area. When you combine a sublime setting with summer sunshine, great food, festive families and a worthy cause, it’s a recipe for a memorable day for everyone involved.
