With the loss of Carrie Fischer, George Michael and Rick Parfitt at the end of 2016, we are in some serious need of cheering up. As a part of the 2017 Fugard Bioscope World Arts Cinema Season, Dmitri Shostakovich’s masterpiece, The Bright Stream, is being screened at the Fugard Theatre on Sunday, 22 January 2017.
The story follows that of a ballerina, Zina, being reunited with her friend when the dance troupe she dances with passes through the area. Zina, her friend and her friend’s husband conspire to teach her cheating husband a lesson with a cruel trick; they decide to switch places for a night.
This screening is of Alexei Ratmansky’s creative interpretation, in which he creates a hilarious masterpiece sprinkled with deception, intriguing characters and plenty laughs. Prepare to be thoroughly enchanted by these lovable characters, all in the stunning setting of the Bolshoi Theatre.
