SuperRugby: Stormers vs Blues
Back your boytjies against their mighty Kiwi rivals
There is nothing quite like a game of rugga at Newlands; the atmosphere, the sporting talent and the beer makes this stadium a Mother City institution. On Friday, 19 May 2017, our beloved Stormers will take on the Blues, who hail from the land next to the land down under (New Zealand, in case you didn’t catch that quality banter there).
At the time of writing this article, the DHL Stormers were third on the overall SuperRugby log while the Blues are currently sitting in 9th place, with both teams having played nine games. The Blues, hailing from Auckland in New Zealand, have a fearsome reputation in the SuperRugby world; having won the league three times.
While they are sitting six positions below the Stormers, they should not be underestimated. In their last game the Blues beat the Brumbies 18-12, even though the Brumbies are five places higher than them on the log. These guys are playing for pride, and you better believe that they’re going to bring it all to the table in this clash of titans. Blues captain, James Parsons, is a large dude (106kg to be exact) and his team will prove a fearsome test for our boytjies.
The Stormers have lost their last two matches. They suffered a loss against the Crusaders; 54-24 on 22 April, and on 28 April 2017 Stormers only managed 14 against the Highlanders’ 59. Their crushing defeats of late will only push them to try harder against the Blues. The Stormers team is quite a young one at the moment, so we hope these lads can pull a win out of the bag on home soil.
Whether they win or not, having a few beers at the stadium is a must. If they win, you’ll be drunk (and happy) enough to party on. If they lose the blow will be dulled by all the drinking.
We don’t have word on which exact players will be fielded on the evening of Friday, 19 May 2017, but you can bet that this clash will be well worth a watch. Get your tickets as soon as possible people! Have a look at some of the best tries from Round 7 of the 2017 SuperRugby season:
