On Sunday, 28 May 2017, the Super Hero Charity Dash will take place after some mild date issues. The original event was scheduled for April, but due to unforeseen circumstances the event had to be moved to May. The organisers are aware, however, that this new date falls during Ramadan, and have promised that they will have another event later in the year that all can attend.
The Super Hero Charity Dash was conceptualised as a way to involve the greater Cape Town public in a fun and active form of fundraising. The dash will cover 5-km along the much loved Sea Point Promenade with the race starting at the Mouille Point Lighthouse. The course will take walkers alongside the ocean, so you’ll be getting your weekly exercise while taking in a lovely view; that’s certainly a way to motivate people!
The charity benefactors of the Super Hero Charity Dash are Little Brinks and the Cancer Association of South Africa. Little Brinks aims to provide every child and baby with the vital things they need; food, shelter, water and clothing. They speak for those that cannot, and they are very excited for the superheroes at the Charity Dash to save the day for these little ones. The Cancer Association of South Africa aids millions of people with cancer; they place a huge amount of importance in research and they hope to one day find a cure for this awful disease.
Each entrant is asked to bring along a gift to donate to these very worthy charities. What do they mean by ‘a gift’? Well, any kind of toy, canned food, toiletries, baby foods or formula. Halfway through the run, you’ll be able to drop off your gift and know that your participation has made a difference; you are someone’s superhero.
The event is centred on superheroes so whether you see yourself as the new Captain America (Captain South Africa maybe?), Hulk, Superman, Thor or you want to bring some creativity to the event and design your own one. Not all superheroes wear costumes, but at this event the organisers would prefer if you do. Let’s make it look like a sea of superheroes have taken over Mouille Point!
ENTRIES FOR THE 2017 SUPER HERO CHARITY DASH IN MOUILLE POINT
Entries should be made online via Superherodash.co.za as soon as possible. An adult entry is R80p/p and a child entry is R20p/p and all of the proceeds will go to the two charities stated above. You can register on the day from 8:45am, but please bare in mind that the queues may be long and it’s much easier to do it online. The fun walk kicks off at 10am.
If you have any queries or questions, please feel free to contact the organisers directly on +27 (0)73 411 5575 or drop them an email - info@superherodash.co.za.
