There’s nothing quite like that lazy Sunday feeling – the one that comes just after a great long lunch and just before the last few late afternoon hours of the precious weekend. Fortunately for Western Capers, the folks at the scenic Spier Hotel in Stellenbosch are facilitating that day-of-rest sensation with their Sunday Roast and Opera affair on 27 July 2014.
Renowned for its socially conscious ethos and staunch support of the arts, the pristine Cape Winelands estate makes for the ideal haven to indulge in the simple delights of life – food, music and wine. The traditional Sunday lunch, a bountiful buffet of perfectly cooked meats and hearty roast vegetables, will be served up with a side of song in the hotel’s cosy wine bar, which also happens to have a fireplace adept at keeping the winter chill at bay. Guests get to tuck in and then sit back and relax while sweet operatic melodies sweep them into a state of sheer bliss.
Bulgarian-born soprano Svetlana Ivanova and pianist Ingrid Salzmann will be performing romantic songs for the heart and modern classics to soundtrack the lazy Sunday sessions, and, like a good digestif, the music is sure to make the delicious eats settle nicely in the stomach. Svetlana has performed for audiences all over Europe and is known for her diverse repertoire of classical tunes and opera arias, and Ingrid’s seasoned piano-playing style provides the perfect accompaniment to her counterpart’s angelic voice.
In short, diners can expect a feast for both the tongue and the ears, so treat yourself and a few of your favourite people to a perfect wintery Sunday afternoon and a celebration of that feeling.
TICKETS FOR THE SUNDAY ROAST AND OPERA AT SPIER HOTEL
