Ready, steady, let’s traverse the trails at twilight
Soothe Your Soul with Live Music at Bay Harbour Market Every Saturday
Celebrate our unique South African spirit with live music at one of Cape Town’s most vibrant markets every Saturday
The Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay is a favourite Cape Town weekend hangout with plenty on offer.
With over 100 stalls offering a wide variety of food, unique clothing items, jewellery, vintage pieces, a fireplace, kids play area – and topped with a side of live music every weekend – the Bay Harbour Market definitely has something for the whole family.
Situated at 31 Harbour Road in Hout Bay, the vibey indoor market caters to individuals with a flair for all things local. En route to entering the reinvented factory, market-goers will be enthralled by the street art along the walkway, with African art in the form of paintings and sculptures greeting you at the door, and the distant sounds of local up-and-coming musos setting the tone. Musicians and bands that perform at the market vary from jazz to blues to rock... and everything in between! The KWV Sound Stage has showcased the likes of Idols finalist, Mark Haze; South Africa’s most loved girl groups, 3 Tons of Fun; and six-piece soul fusion band, The Kink.
Take the day to explore the unique vintage offerings, Indian sculptures and incense, customised leather boots, vinyls, and truly Capetonian tees. And once the enticing scents of South African cuisine hit your nostrils, be prepared to be whisked away on a culinary experience like no other! Food offerings range from all-day build-your-own-breakfasts offerings at Bon Ami, to paella and fresh seafood on the menu at Sea Bar, and traditional African food like heart tripe (ulusu), potjie and braai meat (Tshisanyama) at Seven Colours Eatery. Bay Harbour Market also offers an array of exotic foods from around the world, like Mexican cuisine at The Pickled Popper, homemade Chinese cuisine at Tao’s Chinese Kitchen, and the perfect balance of Mediterranean-style and traditional South African dishes at Tunisian Delights, to name but a few.
Once you’ve eventually decided on a meal for the day (and we know this may take a while with the amount of food choices under one roof), grab your meal and select a spot at any of the communal dining spaces. Our pick? The tables set around the KWV Sound Stage, where you will find the finest local musos every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Stay up to date with Bay Harbour Market’s live music gig guide here.
Tip: Parking can be found on the pavement, outside Sinnfull Ice-Cream on Harbour Road, or behind Snoekies fisheries. Also, if you’re car-less, keep in mind that the MyCiTi’s bus 108 stops just outside the market.
