EARTHBOX is a first-of-its-kind ...
Experience an immersive sensory journey into the depths of the earth
Following on from its highly successful Rooftop Cinema series, Short and Sweet will return to the Mother City on Tuesday, 26 May 2015 for six weeks to showcase creative film productions from around the world.
The event will be hosted at the prestigious Mondiall Kitchen & Bar and is set to take place every Tuesday until 30 June 2015. Once again the affair will showcase a mixed bag of the world’s top short films, animations and music videos. The new location means that film fanatics will have the opportunity to tuck into an array of delectable dishes carefully crafted by chef Riaan Burger, while reclining in decadent chairs and watching one of two big screens. Enjoy a consummate winter cinema experience which doubles as an adorable date night idea and make sure that you arrive early to squeeze in a tasty cocktail or two before screenings commence.
Each evening will feature a selection of different films – often including the premier of one local film, because we all know that homegrown talent abounds in the Mother City!
As usual, the line-up remains a mystery until the opening night – which adds to the growing suspense cultivated by the creative endeavour.
For those not-in-the-know, the festival was founded by Julia Stephenson in 2006. Julia, while working at an ad agency in London, lamented the amount of imaginative films that crossed her desk but were inevitably cast aside. Through this sifting process, she discovered an appreciation for short-form films, which ultimately lead her to institute the Short & Sweet Film Festival.
Since its inception several years ago, the film fandango has given a platform to short films, music videos and short animations from around the globe – reaching audiences as far-flung as London, Leeds, Bristol, Mumbai, Toronto, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Copenhagen and Melbourne.
The series continues to choose informal settings for screenings – from parks and rooftops to drive-in set-ups – in an effort to redefine a cinematic experience, to allow for an intimate, relaxed atmosphere and to encourage networking amongst festival-goers.
Guests to the upcoming event should bring along a bit of extra cash for drinks and tapas - once you see the gourmet goodies on offer, you won't be able to resist tucking in.
