Wine, dine and make merry at the fifth annual Riesling and Rarities Rock Festival at Hartenberg Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on Saturday, 23 January 2016. This year, the much loved wine affair splashes its way onto the social calendar for not only a lip-licking celebration of one of the industry’s most versatile whites, but also to pay homage to other rare varietals.
Riesling wines are widely regarded as aromatic, multifaceted and the perfect partner to just about any type of food. To honour this German-style vino’s flexibility and depth, Carl Schultz, Hartenberg’s winemaker and one of Mzansi’s top Riesling masters, has again called on South Africa’s finest producers to showcase their flagship Rieslings at this fabulous fiesta.
This garden party-style event not only offers vino lovers the opportunity to sample a wide variety of dry and off-dry options, but also the chance to sample other out-of-the-spotlight wines, like Viognier and Semillon, and to pair wine with an array of gourmet bites, which will be available for purchase at the many deli stalls. Choose from sushi, oysters and antipasti or simply buy a readymade picnic basket for the day.
Apart from sipping and swirling the fine treats available, festival-goers can also enjoy live entertainment to match the mellow mood of the afternoon. In short, it looks to be one memorable day of fun in the sun.
