Plant-Based Cooking with Arabella Parkinson

Learn how to create colourful, delectable dishes with nothing but plant ingredients

Looking to add wellness and revitalisation to your mind and body? You can simply start by eating whole, nutritious foods! You are what you eat, after all, so eat well. Head down to Ginger & Lime Cooking Studio on Saturday, 5 August 2017 for an inspiring cooking class. Chef and holistic health advocate Arabella Parkinson will guide a creative plant-based food cooking class, teaching you quick and convenient recipes that will sustain you. You’ll be amazed to discover the unlimited possibilities plants provide.

Arabella will introduce you to easy recipes for dishes that incorporate whole grains, fruits and vegetables, which add colour varieties to your plate. Apparently, different-coloured plant foods contain different kinds of vitamins and nutrients, so it’s good to have a rainbow of them. The chef’s workshops will focus on eating local and seasonal foods. She also teaches how eating correctly aids digestion, which is always a good thing for your body’s wellbeing.

On the menu, the goodies you will be making and enjoying, includes warm turmeric latte; a passionfruit smoothie, chock-a-block full of fruit and quinoa; Malabar curry with vegan naan bread; kale chips with roasted carrot hummus; raw cacao truffles and more mouthwatering delights.

The food that Arabella concocts is loosely based on Ayurveda, an Indian health tradition thousands of years old. It believes what you eat and how it is prepared makes a difference to your health. Arabella believes in listening to your body’s needs when it comes to eating – and that doesn’t mean your cravings for chocolate chip cookies. In other words, there is no prescribed diet you have to follow to eat right, just some basic principles and knowledge of healthy foods and cooking.

The versatility of veggies is impressive and as a resourceful chef, Parkinson is a great teacher to demonstrate this. The venue, Ginger & Lime, is a private home that regularly hosts interactive cooking lessons and courses. Everyone does a little something towards the meals: chopping vegetables, stirring onions, or pouring beverages. The atmosphere is laidback, and the classes are a great opportunity to meet new friends.
