Award-winning folk singer Passenger, also known as Mike Rosenberg, is billed to touch down in sunny Cape Town for the very first time to perform at the much-loved Sunday summer sunset concert seriesat Kirstenbosch on Sunday, 15 February 2015 as part of a worldwide tour to promote his latest album, Whispers (2014).
“We are excited to have an international performer of this calibre as part of the line–up for this year’s concert series,” says Sarah Struys, events manager at Kirstenbosch, who claimed that the singer’s concert will take the annual event to “a new level.”
The rootsy folk singer-songwriter’s Mzansi visit is currently the last stop on his list and will follow performances at sold-out concerts in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
After garnering global renown following the release of his single ‘Let Her Go’ from the 2012 album All the Little Lights, the Brighton-based singer has not only skyrocketed to the top of the charts but has also secured himself a throng of adoring fans from around the world and has more recently been inducted into the Shazam Hall of Fame.
While his formative years were spent learning to play classical guitar, this 30-something muso began writing his own songs during his teenage days, and at the tender age of 16, he left his scholastic training to pursue a career as a busker.
Determined to make it as a musician, Rosenberg founded the band Passenger along with four talented artists in 2003. The group released their debut and only album in 2007, but parted ways in 2009; despite the group’s breakup, Rosenberg took on the band’s name as his own.
Since then he’s soldiered on, and now with six albums, a 2014 Brit Award nomination for British Single of the Year as well as three music accolades under his belt, this Brighton-based former busker is sure to have crowds swaying and singing along to his catchy tunes.
