Oh Baby, I’m a Wild One at Alexander Bar Theatre

Louis Viljoen is back with another sensational play!

On Monday, 12 December 2016 a new chapter opens at the Alexander Bar Theatre in Cape Town. Oh Baby, I’m a Wild One begins its ten day stint on the stage of one of the Mother City’s best-loved theatrical venues. Don’t miss your chance to see Emma Kotze in the title role under the direction of the current Writer in Residence at the Fugard Theatre, Louis Viljoen. The production draws to a close on Friday, 23 December 2016.

The plot, of which we will do our best not to give too much away, follows the plight of one woman – a young teacher. She returns from her sister’s wedding and has a rather serious story to tell, but is clueless where to begin. Does she try to explain how she has quit smoking? Maybe she should start with what the groom said to her at the wedding? It becomes clear that there is one story she would rather not divulge the details of; the story of the little boy who sat at the back of her classroom, the one that knows our protagonist’s most terrible secret.

The production was directed and written by Louis Viljoen, a South African legend in the making. This talented man has created, amongst many, The Emissary, The Pervert Laura, Champ and The Kingmakers. He won the 2013 and 2015 Fleur du Cap Award for ‘Best New South African Script’ for Champ and The Kingmakers respectively. He is currently working as the Writer in Residence at The Fugard Theatre.

The star and leading lady of Oh Baby, I’m a Wild One is a very talented South African by the name of Emma Kotze. This rising star studied at UCT and graduated in 2013. In 2014 she was nominated for the Fleur du Cap ‘Most Promising Student Award’ after her debut in Wyanne Bredenkamp’s Salt. She studied film acting under Bonni Rodini, and she hasn’t stopped making leaps in her career since!

Oh Baby, I’m a Wild One sees two very gifted South Africans come together and create a masterpiece. Missing out on this sensational play is simply not an option for any true fan of local theatricals. Relax before the show at the Alexander Bar and have a few drinks with friends, or maybe drop in even earlier and have a bite to eat.
