Back to bring another electrifying New Year’s to Mother City music lovers, the Electric Vines Festival promises big beats, mischief and magic beneath the starry sky at the beautiful Wildekrans Estate just outside of Hermanus. Spanning two days, the fabulous fiesta runs from Wednesday, 30 December 2015 to Friday, 1 January 2016.

With camping, glamping and VIP accommodation up for grabs, all framed by the exquisite vines traversing Wildekrans, the festival is ideal for anyone with an itch to dance and a desire to see some of the city’s top live acts. And when we say top acts, we mean it! The line-up this year is bound to make music fanatics’ toes tingle, as Goldfish will be lighting up the main stage on the 30th, followed by Mi Casa on the 31st. What better way to bring in the New Year than with sexy house beats and awesome supporting acts to boot?

With over 30 acts across three stages, there are plenty of other stellar performers on the bill such as the ever-energetic and awesome Desmond & The Tutus, instrumental aficionados Nomadic Orchestra, indie enchanters Al Bairre and jazzy house beatmakers The Kiffness. Not to mention the drop-deck gorgeous DJ Dean Fuel – South African DJ royalty and the man who’ll keep you on the right track for a great night.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2015-2016 ELECTRIC VINES MUSIC FESTIVAL IN CAPE TOWN

SERIOUS BEATS AND MUSICAL TREATS: As you’ve undoubtedly realised by now, music is a massive part of what makes Electric Vines one of the best New Year’s bashes out there. If you’re still unconvinced, take a look at the line-up below (these are just some of the acts – a few more are still set to be announced!).

Line-up for the New Year’s fest:

  • Goldfish
  • Mi Casa
  • Veranda Panda
  • Niskerone
  • The Kiffness
  • Dean Fuel
  • PHFat
  • Desmond & The Tutus
  • Shortstraw
  • Al Bairre
  • Nomadic Orchestra
  • Red Tape Riot
  • Grace de la Hunt
  • Joshua Grierson

MAINSTAY BEACH BAR: If you’re in the mood to stomp in the sand (yes, there’s a real beach) or just chill with a drink in hand then this super-summer hot spot is set to be your haunt. Described as ‘a little piece of heaven sliced off the island of Ibiza,’ the Beach Bar will be abuzz with electronic, house and techno beats, not to mention a fully stocked bar courtesy of Mainstay. The dam is right there so if you get too hot from dancing on the imported beach sand, then you can dive straight into the refreshing waters for a quick swim in the sunshine.

ACOUSTIC STAGE: Marvellously mellow, this laid-back stage is ideal for those seeking something a little more soulful. Running synonymously with the Beach Bar, there’ll be a continuous roll out of instrumental and unplugged performances designed to encourage optimal relaxation and good picnic vibes. Expect superb strumming from the likes of Joshua Grierson and Grace de la Hunt – with more artists to be announced soon.

GOOD-MOOD FOOD: No festival is complete without an assortment of food vendors on hand to provide hungry dance divas with tasty snacks to fuel optimal grooving. Electric Vines will have plenty of top-notch nosh around, complemented by an array of bars to choose from so nobody will be going thirsty.

REVAMP THE GLAMP: For those eager to ‘rough and tough’ it in true festival style, there are general camping areas on-hand so you just need to arrive with your camping gear in tow and the skills to pitch a tent. The campsites are lovely and have hot showers, wash basins and a ladies’ den complete with mirrors, so you won’t really be roughing it at all. However, if that sounds like rather a lot of effort, there are also some super stress-free accommodation options available:

The Electric Easy (R1200 – R1800): Imagine arriving to a beautiful tent branded with the Electric Vines logo and already erected with an air mattress, sleeping bags and solar lantern inside it. Sound like a dream? That’s exactly what this package includes, and best of all, you get to keep everything, including the trendy tent! There’s also the option to just purchase the tent if you’re keen to bring your own bedding. This special ends soon so best you book quickly!

The Electric Lodge (R3600): The VVIP of accommodation, this package is for those who want to celebrate the New Year in serious style. Aside from sleeping in real beds with comfy mattresses, hotel-quality linen, fluffy pillows, storage for valuables, deck chairs, air conditioning and a power connection, you’ll also get access to the electric village and gain VIP parking. Wave goodbye to plebs in tents – you’ve crossed the line to luxury.

POSTCARD-PERFECT SETTING: Merely an hour’s drive away from the Mother City (give or take, depending on traffic), Electric Vine’s new home is a picturesque 1000-hectare estate nestled in the Bot River Valley. The international award-winning vineyard overlooks Walker Bay and is known as much for its scenery as its superlative vintages. In short, Wildekrans is a mini paradise and perfect for eye-catching photos at sunset.

Electric Vines is also running their #ElectricVines4Life competition this year. Stand the chance to win lifetime tickets to the event by telling Electric Vines what daring and out-there act you’d perform to get your hands on tickets. Last year, Khylie won lifetime tickets by getting the festival’s logo tattooed on her arm – this year, the organisers are looking for something seriously special to top said tattoo. What lengths would you be prepared to go to? Send Electric Vines your answer but don’t actually go through with the act unless you’re confirmed as this year’s winner – after which, follow-through is everything! Note that safety and sanity rules apply – don’t do anything dangerous, please.
