If you enjoy warm summer days out of the Mother City, then why not gather your family, kick off your shoes and head over to Stellenbosch for some good old-fashioned grape-stomping fun? The annual Muratie Harvest Festival gets underway on Saturday, 18 February 2017, and this celebratory family event will have you squelching the afternoon away in pure bliss.
Squashing grapes can work up your appetite so there will be a lip-smacking range of meals on sale, as well as Muratie’s full range of wines and other cool drinks too. At noon, Hattingh de Villiers will be holding a wine tasting featuring Muratie's wines (please note that you need to book for this expereince, and it will cost R50p/p). After this guests are invited to sit back under the ancient oak trees and enjoy the sweet melodies of the Kitchen Jammin’ Blues Band, while you tuck into an alfresco lunch prepared by Muratie's Farm Kitchen. Lunch will include gourmet burgers, salmon sandwiches, samoosas, spring rolls and cheese platters.
Nestled away in the stunning Knorhoek Valley, Muratie Estate is an old family owned farm with a unique atmosphere and rich heritage. Everything, from the stately Cape Dutch buildings and the crumbling statues, to the cosy, cobwebbed tasting room and lush secret garden, will leave you with a sense of wonder and feeling completely relaxed. So book your tickets and bring the kids along too because there are tractor-loads of grapes that need to be stomped.
Starting the day early (if you're up for it) at 7am Dr Rijk Melck is taking keen mountain bikers on a challenging tour of the estate. It sounds like a good way to prep for a day filled with wine and rich food. The tour will cost R100p/p, and pre-booking is essential.
