The action-packed Montagu Makiti Family Festival makes a comeback for three days of family fun from Friday, 26 to Sunday, 28 September 2014.
Visitors can expect a line-up of live music, cultural celebrations, art exhibitions, stage performances, delicious food and wine and even an MTB challenge.
As an added extra, guests are encouraged (although not obliged) to purchase the charity-supporting Makiti Can, which serves as the festival ticket. The can, which costs R70, is packed with goodies such as a Route 62 sticker, Makiti Bandana, discount vouchers, dried fruit samples and spot prizes. Proceeds from the cans will be donated to various non-profit organisations and charities, including the Winelands SPCA, Breede River Hospice, Breede River Rotary and the RAD Foundation.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2014 MONTAGU MAKITI FAMILY HERITAGE FESTIVAL
GREAT GATSBY DINNER: Get into the style of the roaring 20s with a Great Gatsby themed dinner at South African’s original Art Deco hotel, the Montagu Country Hotel. Expect a load of Jazz Age-inspired thrills and spills – with authentic music, décor and food. The dinner takes place on Saturday, 28 September at 7pm and costs R150p/p. FAMILY GOLF DAY: This fun-filled event, sponsored by Montagu Dried Fruit, gives young and old alike the chance to go head to head to determine the best family golf pairing. Categories include parent and child; husband and wife; siblings and young and old (25 year age different is required). The event, which takes the format of a combined stableford, goes down at the Montagu Golf Club on Saturday, 27 September. The first tee-off is at 8am and entry costs R145 including green fees, on-course refreshments, lunch and a chance to wine loads of great prizes.
MAKITI MIMETIME SHOW: Enjoy an evening of light entertainment and laughs with the on-stage Makiti Mimetime Show. The event, which is in support of local charities, takes place on Friday, 26 September at the NG Church Hall in Piet Retief Street. Tickets cost R100p/p for table seating and R70p/p for balcony seats and walk-ins. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. Although dinner is not included in the price, drinks and refreshments will be on sale. Last year’s Mimetime show was a sell-out, so be sure to book soon to avoid disappointment! ON-YOUR-OWN MTB EVENT: Take part in a 15-km MTB challenge taking place on Saturday, 27 and Sunday, 28 September. And for the sports fanatics, feel free to attempt as many laps as you can at no extra charge. SHARE THE LOVE SUNSET CONCERT: Grab a picnic and head down to the Montagu Museum Gallery Yard for an evening of musical entertainment with the Ashton Youth Choir. The event goes down on Saturday, 27 September at 4pm and costs R50p/p and R25p/p for Makiti CAN holders. Tickets are available at the Museum Gallery or Tourism Office. MAKITI CARNIVAL: The non-profit RAD Foundation will team up with the HEITA Hello Heritage Carnival to bring you a fun-filled day proudly South African entertainment. Guests can look forward to a marching band parade, storytelling, traditional song and dance and even an art exhibition entitled “Rights of Passage”. The carnival starts at 10:30, makes its way through the town centre and ends at the Edward Rugby Stadium. Entry fee is charged at R10 per adult and R5 per child.

Attendees are encouraged to purchase a Makiti CAN for R70 in lieu of a festival ticket. Proceeds from the CANs go to various local charities.
