Miss Deaf Africa Pageant

This multi-cultural event is a celebration of our incredible deaf community

Watch beautiful, brave young women take to the catwalk to raise awareness about Africa’s deaf society whilst also showcasing the talents of some of our continent’s brightest up-and-coming stars. The Miss Deaf Africa Pageant is taking place at Durbanville High School on Saturday, 30 July 2016 from 7pm.

An annual event that unites our continent behind a cause often overlooked by the hearing society, this fashion-forward affair is all about highlighting Africa’s cultural diversity and the beauty and potential of the incredible young women championing the interests of the deaf community. With the mission to bring deaf and hearing communities together, the pageant was founded by Maria Sivertsen in 2012, and has grown from strength to strength since then.

Sivertsen has taught deaf people for close to 26 years, and is dedicated to showcasing the talent of the young people she works with. During the pageant, guests can watch the finalists model and dance to music as they show off their talents in traditional attire. The instructions and questions will be conducted in sign language as a means of raising awareness about this vital language as well.

TICKETS FOR THE 2016 MISS DEAF AFRICA PAGEANT

Tickets are R150p/p. No under-12s are allowed and the show lasts for two and a half hours with a thirty minute interval. Gates open at 6:30pm.
