Mandela Day Winter Ball at Moyo: Cancelled

Spend your 67 minutes in a glamorous gown at a beautiful ball in the gardens this Mandela Day

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

---

This Mandela Day, spend your 67 minutes swishing around the dance floor in a glamorous gown, with a suave partner on your arm and live music tinkling in the background. Moyo, in collaboration with the Homechoice Development Trust, is hosting a beautiful winter ball in the stunning setting of Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden to raise money for Starting Chance, a non-profit trust dedicated to the educational uplifting of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The dance is on our Tata’s birthday on Saturday, 18 July 2015.

The UN declared the 18th of July as Nelson Mandela Day in 2009, commemorating Madiba’s 67 years of phenomenal service to humanity by asking people to dedicate one minute of their time to mark each year – hence 67 minutes. The idea is to spend this time period doing something good, however big or small that may be. And what better way to give back than by attending a ball, all the proceeds of which go to our children?

The ball is set to be a lavish affair held at one of the country’s most beloved dining establishments. Moyois a rare gem that combines international standards with an authentic African dining experience that includes a traditional hand washing and face painting ceremony for patrons. Aside from this cultural highlight, guests are also treated to a smorgasbord of the continent’s best cuisine, from Moroccan slow-braised lamb shank to Mozambican peri-peri prawns and Senegalese line fish.

Guests at the dinner dance will have plenty of opportunities to sample the restaurant’s gourmet offerings as the night includes a selection of some of the menu’s best dishes, along with welcome drinks and live entertainment to set the mood. With a range of local performers, including some of the teachers from the Mfuleni Township, guests are in for a musical feast, with plenty of vibrant beats to get the dancing going.

There will also be a number of prizes up for grabs on the night, along with a multiple opportunities to meet and greet the city’s philanthropic cool crowd. So get your gown/ evening wear ready, grab your friends and get ready to give back your 67 minutes in style.

GIVE CHILDREN THE BEST START IN LIFE

Starting Chance is a firm advocate for the importance of Early Childhood Development as a crucial foundational phase for children. The trust aims to give kids a flying start on their educational journey by providing training and teaching resources to teachers, along with upgrading shack schools to best practice centres, eligible for registration with the Department of Social Development. If schools successfully register, they can claim government subsidies that pave the way to self-sustainability and a brighter future for everyone.
