Proudly Mzansi label Magents is back with a bang – and a super sweet offer for our readers – after a five-year hiatus that started in 2008. The globally renowned Afro-vintage clothing line is treating anyone who pops into its Cape Town showroom at the stylish Labels4Less factory store on Kloof Street to a R50 discount in honour of its 2013/2014 relaunch (simply mention CapeTownMagazine.com to qualify for the special).
After a brief go at world domination, the brand’s returned to local fashion’s front line with its first collection of shoes, a sporty sneaker range that serves up the same stylish combination of urban edginess and comfortable luxury that old Magents fans knew and loved. A smarter but still casual range of kicks is soon to follow, and the label’s signature T-shirts are destined to hit the shelves by the end of November 2013. Then, denim, board shorts, cargo shorts and jackets are on the way in 2014.
Peeps can pick up the goods (with discount) at the showroom or can scoop up the apparel via the tricked out Magents.co.za online store (FYI: the web site is worth a cruise even if you’re not keen to drop some cash).
If you don’t know much about the collection, though, we’ll humour you. For starters, Magents doesn’t wear its heart on its sleeve; it uses the whole shirt.
Beyond all else, it’s proudly African, or, as its slogan proclaims, ‘Afrikan’ (meaning, it holds up an African-centred view). The brand brings together the spirit of Nelson Mandela, the soul of Steve Biko and the inner strength of Robert Sobukwe. And the colourful, old-school graphics on its famous tees salute freedom fighters, recognise this nation’s great thinkers, challenge our notion of self-identity and celebrate brotherhood, freedom, life and peace.
The apparel isn’t afraid to pass comment on issues that touch our daily lives in Mzansi, and the threads suit movers and shakers: people who stand up for their beliefs and those who don’t mind turning a trend upside down, inside out and back around again.
Most importantly though, the effortlessly cool look and feel of the clothing line is underpinned by a deeper philosophy that’s all about creating a more connected state of consciousness.
So, when you pull on a Magents T-shirt or lace up a pair of Magents sneakers, you’re doing way more than just getting dressed: you’re making a statement about yourself, the world around you and what you believe in.
You dig?!
