The popular M.I.S.S Gayeties series, which showcases the talents of local lesbian artists, musicians, poets, filmmakers and more, is back on Cape Town’s social calendar for a night of inspiring performances and exhibitions. This fourth instalment of the ladies-only event touches down at The Bello Studio at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock on the eve of Saturday, 22 November 2014.
The brainchild of small Mother City venture Make It Sexy Sisters (M.I.S.S), this string of women-only events – there’s one every two months – was conceptualised to celebrate the many lovely gay ladies that colour our city with their creative offerings, be it striking artworks, thought-provoking flicks or trend-setting tunes. In essence, it’s an opportunity to mix and mingle with similar souls and to learn more about those individuals who are actively contributing to the pink cultural scene.
This time around, attendees can look forward to live music performed by up-and-coming singer and songwriter Emma du Preez, who plans to enthrall attendees with her brand of indie folk tunes.
Event-goers can also check out a photographic exhibition featuring works by photographers Alexandra K. Dietz and Zee Hartmann. The former is a well-travelled voyeur whose raw, intimate images focus on everyday details and the in-between moments in life; the latter is a stage artist and dancer whose pictures centre on those intimate moments between performer and audience.
Lastly, avid film buffs can enjoy a short by Sarah Summers. What’s more, revelers can also boogie down to the bass-y, brassy DJ set by the popular resident beatmaker Dear Mrs Panda.
And for those who need a bit of social lubricant, the cash bar will be stocked with wine, beer and bubbles. Needless to say, it’s set to be a top evening of culture mixed with a hefty helping of gaiety. If you’re one of Cape Town’s many ‘ladies who love ladies’ (as M.I.S.S’s slogan says) or if you simply want to rejoice in the creative prowess of the city’s fearless females, then this is one event not to miss.
