Lounge Party at Homage 1862

Drift along a captivating soundscape produced by some of Cape Town’s up-and-comers

From 6pm on Saturday, 10 June 2017, Homage 1862 on Loop Street in Cape Town will be hosting the Lounge Party, and Cape Town musicians will be there to daze you with music and song. The evening affair will boast a selection of local musical gems who are set to enchant you with bewitching dream-pop, psychedelic surf rock, electronic and other sounds. The band line-up consists of Amy Ayanda, Retro Dizzy and Diamond Thug, while Roastin’ Records’s DJ will also be turning up to crush the decks with a banging vinyl set.

Incase you’re out of the loop when it comes to Cape Town’s coolest in music, we’ll give you a quick run-down on these young artists. Retro Dizzy has their own genre of music that they refer to as psychedelic surf rock with a bit of garage elements thrown in. Originally from Hermanus and now settled in Cape Town, they’ve been releasing one banger after another in the underground music stratosphere. The quartet band Diamond Thug experiments with a plethora of pop, psych-rock and electronica, that is accompanied by the bewitching vocals of Chantel Van T. They’re getting big pretty quickly; they won the chance to play at the SXSW arts festival in the US earlier this year, and an all-expenses paid recording session in Boston through Converse’s Rubber Tracks Takeover last year.

Then there’s singer-songwriter and multimedia artist Amy Ayanda, who balances running her own art studio with singing and creating electronic tunes. And finally, Roastin’ Records. You’re probably familiar with the independent record label and music shop - their DJ promises to spin generously, giving you a sample of the eclectic range of records Roastin’ offer in store.

The venue: Homage 1862 is a gorgeous restaurant on one of the CBD’s trendiest tracks, Loop Street. They aim to pay tribute to South Africa’s heritage, natural beauty and culture through the cuisine and dining experience it offers. Their dishes are exceptionally presented, and the decor is wonderful. Plants scattered throughout give the interior a fresh, lush feel. Try to grab a spot in the conservatory if you visit during the day, where sunlight filters through the glass to warm you.

The menu hosts a celebration of vegetables (don’t worry, carnivores, there’s meat too) and this is an especially vegan- and vegetarian-friendly hub. Think South African dishes gone gourmet - warm-spiced braaied mielies served with lime and house mayonnaise, sweet potatoes with Fynbos honey and butter, and butterflied chicken breasts are just some favourites for Homage patrons.

Can there be any reasons why attending this soiree wouldn’t be a good idea? Just head on down to Loop Street, get cosy, maybe grab some quality grub, and feast your ears.
