We’re not using the term ‘legends’ lightly when we talk about an R&B group that has sold over 40 million albums worldwide, and has been producing hits since 1965. On top of that, throw in a Grammy award-winning Disney singer and you’ve got the recipe for a soulful night of scintillating sound and harmonic performance. The Manhattans, along with Gerald Alston and Regina Belle, will take to the stage for the Legends of R&B concert at the GrandWest Grand Arena on Sunday, 24 July 2016.
The Manhattans group formed in 1962 and produced their first chart-topper within three years. Since then, they have had 12 songs on the Top 10 R&B Billboard chart in the United States, such as the Platinum-selling ‘Kiss & Say Goodbye’ and Grammy Award-winning ‘Shining Star’. In 1970, Gerald Alston joined the group, and just three years later they produced yet another hit – ‘There’s No Me Without You’ – which found its way onto the US Billboard Pop and R&B charts.
Joining them on stage is Grammy Award-winning singer Regina Belle, who sang ‘A Whole New World’ with Peabo Bryson for Disney’s 1992 film Aladdin. Belle is no stranger to the group however, having been the opening act for their shows in the early 80s, after which she recorded ‘Where Did We Go Wrong’ with The Manhattans in 1986. This kick-started her career and launched her to new heights, rewarding us with 10 albums to date in the process.
So if you’re desperate for a swinging sound therapy session, then this intimate rhythm and blues concert with gold-standard performances will be the perfect remedy for your soul.
