“Fiction is a particularly effective way for strangers to connect across time and distance.”
― Jonathan Franzen, Freedom
The anticipated arrival of Jonathan Franzen in our very own city is certainly exciting enough to peel any bookworm from their reading nook. Spend an evening with fellow fans of the critically acclaimed author as he sits in conversation with local poet and author Nick Mulgrew, at Good Hope Seminary Primary School on Friday, 3 November 2017. Presented and organised by Jonathan Ball Publishers, the two will be discussing Franzen’s body of work as well as his latest arresting novel, Purity.
Jonathan Franzen has brought us Freedom, The Corrections and five nonfiction works, including Farther Away and The Kraus Project. He has won the National Book Award, the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and the Frank Schirrmacher Prize, which he received earlier this year. Dubbed ‘The Great American Novelist of Our Time,’ Jonathan will undoubtedly bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the evening. This will be a fantastic treat for book lovers.
Along with conversing with Franzen, Nick Mulgrew will be launching of his latest novel, The Law of Sadness, so keep a look out for that! The South African writer has won awards for his novel Stations. He has also published an anthology of his poetry, The Myth of this is that We’re All in this Together.
