Enjoy three nights of sensational local jazz at this tribute concert series

Heritage Month is about recognising and celebrating our unique cultures, our history, and most certainly our music. One of the best ways to appreciate the latter is by taking yourself out for an evening of musical delight by some of the country’s best jazz musicians. From Thursday, 28 to Saturday, 30 September 2017, the Artscape Theatre will host the 2017 Jazz Masters Tribute series, which jazz fans simply can’t afford to miss.

The tribute series invites Capetonians to get better acquainted with the work of the best jazz musicians we are proud to call South Africans. Over three nights, the Artscape Theatre will take you on a sound journey through the jazz scene of the last 15 years. Have a look at the details below and decide which of these unique and inspiring concerts you will attend, and note that there is no shame in attending all of them!

Thursday, 28 September 2017
The opening concert of the series will see Nomfundo Xaluva, Zoe Modiga and Amanda Tiffin take to the stage to show off their talents. Xaluva studied jazz at the University of Cape Town, Modiga has collaborated with The Kiffness and Tiffin is in demand all over the world! Their concert will see these three jazzy ladies come together and make sweet music for your enjoyment.

Friday, 29 September 2017
The second in the three-concert series will see Sylvester Mazinyane, McCoy Mrubata and Buddy Wells offer their best performance. Mazinyane was born in Soweto and has risen to prominence as a jazz pianist. Mrubata on the saxophone is a sound to behold, as is Wells who also plays the flute. This trio is sure to be a treat for any jazz fan.

Saturday, 30 September 2017
The third and final concert of the series is set to be a particularly special one. Errol Dyers was scheduled to perform at this event, but sadly passed away in August 2017.In his memory his brother Alvin will be performing a special tribute to Errol’s work. Hilton Schilder will join him on stage and their rendition of Dyers’ songs will truly move you.
