EARTHBOX is a first-of-its-kind ...
Experience an immersive sensory journey into the depths of the earth
If you’re wondering how to keep your youngsters busy this school holiday then why not sign them up for the Iziko South African Museum’s Sustainability Holiday Programme? They’ll learn how to use and recycle waste products effectively at this series of fun, environmentally friendly workshops, taking place on Thursday, 10 December, Monday, 14 December and Tuesday, 15 December 2015, and come home as savvy eco-warriors. And best of all? The programme is free! The workshops will run from 10:30am until 12pm and are aimed at children aged 12 to 15 years.
As a society, we throw away so much every year, including countless items we can up-cycle and recycle, if we know how to. This programme encourages kids to look at found objects in a new light, with the goal of repurposing things they would otherwise be discarded and end up in a landfill. Kids will create their own museum-inspired objects from collected, found and recycled objects, with the additional aim of igniting creativity and focusing on brainstorming techniques at these workshops.
Young teens will discover how to use plastic bags to knit and crotchet objects, and how to incorporate bottle tops, yoghurt cups and other plastic items to make creative articles they can use. Social, informative and interactive, kids will have a blast while learning something interesting and useful.
