International Public Art Festival

For a little international artistic inspiration

The International Public Art Festival is making it’s touchdown in the Mother City this month, with a variety of activities aimed at art lovers all over Cape Town. From Friday, 10 to Sunday, 19 February 2017 25 artists will take to the streets of Salt River and let their creative flag fly.

For the duration of the festival, tour guides will run an hour and a half long tour through the area, giving you an up close view of their masterpieces in creation. Baz-Art have pledged to train local residents, most of them unemployed, to run the tours as guides throughout the festival. This charitable act will provide some local employment while simultaneously bringing a knowledge that only residents can provide to the festival.

We do not have a full list of artists taking part, but we do know that some are local and some hail from across the sea in all kinds of exotic locations. Some of the artists participating are (according to Facebook) Mak1one, Ubutu B-Boys, Falko, AuRet, Free Spirits, Chocolate Sauce and more. These creative individuals will give Salt River an incredibly colourful burst of life, and you’ll get to see them in the making!

This public art exhibition will also feature an area filled with the purveyors of delicious food in the form of popular food trucks. There will also be music (line-up has not been released just yet), a selection of workshops and more entertainment on top of that.

For the duration of the festival, the walk is free if you elect to go without a guide. It is also free (but this time with a guide) if you are under eighteen years old.

TICKETS FOR THE 2017 INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC ART FESTIVAL IN SALT RIVER

Tickets are available online via Quicket.co.za. As stated above, if you want to see the artworks without a tour guide, then the experience is free; you are only paying for the tour guide. For adults (throughout the festival) the tickets will cost R100p/p. Individuals under 18 can get a tour (with a guide) for free. The festival takes place from 10am to 6:30pm.
