Every year, hundreds of thousands of sun chasers and holiday makers flock to our stunning coastline to splash in the sea. This makes the task of keeping our beaches and oceans litter-free a difficult one, but thankfully there are dedicated volunteers such as the Old Mutual Sub Aqua Club (OMSAC), who will be stepping up to the plate and getting down and dirty for the environment. Join them on Saturday, 17 September 2016 for the International Coastal Clean-up, where they will meet at the parking area between Camps Bay and The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.
The focal point of this year’s operation will be Oudekraal, where the bush on both sides of the road will be cleared of all litter. Depending on the weather, a dive team will also do a sweep of Justin’s Caves, Sandy Cove, Strawberry Rock and the MV Antipolis, and collect any debris that has made its way into these popular dive sites.
You’ll need to bring along a rake or a spike to make the process quicker and easier, and it is advised that you wear high visibility clothing as the road is fraught with blind corners and traffic between Hout Bay and Cape Town will be in full flow. After the manual labour, why not grab a bite to eat at Azure Restaurant as a reward for doing a good deed.
ENTRY TO THE 2016 INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN-UP
To take part in the clean-up, all you need to do is show up at the meeting point and get stuck in. The coastal scrub will take place from 9am till noon.
