This year, the folks at the Friends of Design Academy of Digital Arts have turned their talented fingers to the art of roller skate decorating, all within the theme of superheroes and their ferocious foes. These works of art will roll their way into your heart with the exquisite detail they display, and the characters they represent. The fourth annual HERO Expo skates into town on Thursday, 4 August 2016.
See your favourite comic heroes cast on roller skates. Whether you love Batman and Batgirl, Superman and Wonder Woman or even Aquaman and Aquagirl you’ll find a design that suits your hero tastes, and there will even be anti-hero themed skates for those that find themselves a little more on the dark side. Everyone needs to be bad sometimes right?
Marvel versus DC is a fight even more epic than if The Rock tried to beat up Chuck Norris, and that’s why these supers will go to battle over who has the most amazing art works. This event is exclusively an exhibition, with the pieces on show up for sale via the artists’ discretion.
We also have some hot off the press news for you! The HERO Expo has been invited to attend and display their works at the Open Design Festival at Cape Town City Hall from Wednesday, 10 August to Sunday, 21 August 2016. They will have their own dedicated room and everything. Also, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has requested that the works displayed at the HERO expo also be showed at the Mobility Indaba at Kenilworth Racecourse later this year (in October to be exact).
The HERO Expo encourages attendees to dress up and show off your best roller skate talents. Fancy being Batgirl on wheels circa 1960? Then do it! The sky is the limit with this event, and the main attraction is admiring someone else’s self-expression.
