Haute couture, a helluva lot of vino and a hipster attitude are the main ingredients behind the 2014 Grape Day Out Wine Festival, a student-centric jol set to transform the Woodmill in Stellenbosch into a festive wonderland on Saturday, 2 August 2014.
Now in its third year, the food and wine affair has become a firm favourite on the social calendar, and the much-anticipated to-do aims to be bigger and better than before this time around. Mainly targeted at students and young professionals (though, not forgetting the young at heart), this annual fashion fiesta takes visitors from the wine barrel to the catwalk in one fell swoop.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2014 GRAPE DAY OUT WINE FESTIVAL IN STELLENBOSCH
FREE WINE TASTINGS: Between 12pm and 3pm, attendees can sip and sample vinos from 25 of the Stellenbosch Winelands’s finest wine estates, each of which will be offering up a taste of the good stuff for nada – that’s right, it’s FREE! For the thirsty traveller, bottles of wine can also be purchased on site from the featured estates, and if the mahala tipple is not enough, there will also be a fully stocked cash bar.
GOURMET FOOD STALLS: For the slightly peckish, stalls showcasing local wine estate restaurants will be offering a range of cuisine to suit all tastes. So, if you’re needing some delicious treats to soak up the booze, the festival has got you covered; do note that food is only available at an extra cost.
FASHION SHOW AND ENTERTAINMENT: Trend-setting outfits are the order of the day. This year, the stylish fiesta’s exclusive fashion show takes places between 3pm and 3:30pm and will provide a platform for budding designers from some of Cape Town’s top fashion schools. Though, festival-goers don’t have to just be spectators; if the judges spot you on the red carpet and like what you’re wearing, you’ll get to strut your stuff on the catwalk in the Best Dressed contest and stand a chance to win great prizes! The theme for this year’s festival is 'Colour me Grape‘.
PARTY: Apart from the main offerings of food, fashion and large quantities of vino, visitors can expect to get down to some booty-bopping beats provided by some of Mzansi’s hottest musos (Red Bull DJs are on the cards). All in all, festival-goers can look forward to a lekker day out in the Stellenbosch Winelands.
TICKETS FOR THE 2014 GRAPE DAY OUT WINE FESTIVAL IN STELLENBOSCH
A limited number of tickets for this exclusive event are available via Webtickets.co.za as well as at the door on the day (provided there are any left); they cost R150p/p. No under 18s are allowed at the festival.
As part of the fair’s commitment to a safe shindig, the organisers urge guests to drink responsibly and have a designated driver. Alternatively, shuttles to and from Die Neelsie in Stellenbosch depart on demand from 11am to 7pm for free. For those travelling from the Southern Suburbs and the CBD, shuttles to and from the University of Cape Town will also be made available at an additional cost of R50p/p; these will depart from 10:30am onwards and return from 5pm onwards.
