Experience an immersive sensory journey into the depths of the earth
Don your finest on the evening of Friday, 26 February 2016 for a food and wine pairing experience fit for royalty. The Azure Restaurant at the iconic Twelve Apostles Hotel and Ormonde Private Cellar have teamed up to create a four-course menu that perfectly complements the wine estate’s produce.
With picturesque views of the glistening ocean and the mountains that line the Atlantic Seaboard, the Azure Restaurant needs no introduction, it’s five-star reviews, spectacular food, and a view to die for makes it one of the very best in its class.
Executive Chef Christo Pretorius has conceptualised a menu, with help from the Ormonde winemakers, that perfectly matches the wine produced by the exclusive estate, making this event a learning experience as well as a fabulous dinner treat.
Guests will arrive at 7pm for 7:30pm and will be welcomed with a glass of Chenin Blanc from the 2015 Ormonde Odine collection. From there guests will move to the terrace to enjoy the unobstructed view of sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
The evening’s dining starts with a tuna roll as an amuse bouche, served with tuna tartare, miso dressing, and dashi jelly and accompanied by a glass of the Ormonde Sauvignon Blanc 2015. Next is Chef Christo’s baked hen’s eggs, served with green asparagus, orange sweet potato, gooseberry, young radishes and almond cheese, and matched with the Ormonde Chardonnay 2013. The smoked ham hock terrine with cauliflower piccalilli, apple compote, crispy pork crackling, white wine gel and mustard crème that follows is sure to further delight, and is served with the Ondine Cabernet Franc 2013.
And that’s not even the main course yet! Look forward to springbok loin with citrus roast carrot puree, baby root vegetables, fermented red cabbage, blueberry gel, spiced seed crackers, and rich venison jus. The Ormonde Shiraz 2013 has been selected to be enjoyed with this dish, as it pairs beautifully with red meat.
The meal concludes with goat cheese panna cotta with beetroot sponge, beetroot gel, green fig jelly and candied pecan nuts. A selection of petit fours, served with tea and coffee, round off the charming evening with relaxed contentment.
