Feast of The Grape

Drink in all the Durbanville Wine Route has to offer at the valley’s annual harvest festival

To celebrate the end of its annual harvest season, 12 vineyards in the picturesque Durbanville wine valley are pulling out all the stops to put forth a jam-packed day of family fun at the 2016 Feast of the Grape festival on Saturday, 27, and Sunday, 28 February 2016.

This time around, the merry affair is setting up camp at the stunning D’Aria Winery where vino lovers are invited to come celebrate at a grape-stomping do that will, almost literally, knock your socks off.

PARTICIPATING WINE FARMS AT THE 2016 FEAST OF THE GRAPE FESTIVAL

The 12 farms taking part in the grape festivities this year include:

  • Altydgedacht Wine Estate
  • Bloemendal Wine Estate
  • D’Aria Winery
  • De Grendel Wine Estate
  • Diemersdal Wine Estate
  • Durbanville Hills Cellar
  • Groot Phesantekraal Farm
  • Hillcrest Estate
  • Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery
  • Meerendal Wine Estate
  • Nitida Wine Farm
  • Signal Gun Wine Farm

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2016 FEAST OF THE GRAPE WINE FESTIVAL

A FINE WINE AFFAIR: Now in its fourth year, the festival sees 12 of the valley’s wineries come together to showcase their top-notch reds, whites, pinks and bubblies in one place. Look out for vino from Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, D’Aria and many more.

HAVE A GRAPE TIME: Festival-goers can expect to partake in a bunch of activities, like a charity grape-stomp, tutored tastings and selfie-taking at the photobooth. There’s also a live music line-up featuring the likes of Bottomless Coffee Band and Newton & Co.

TUTORED WINE THEATRE: Enthusiasts can look forward to exploring the subtle differences in Durbanville’s wines through guided tastings. The sessions will be led by the often outspoken, but always passionate winemakers behind the valley’s creations. Entry to this event is free, but booking is essential to score a spot and can be done by emailing ariska@creamlibrary.com. There are only 30 seats available, and two tastings take place per day: one at 12pm and one at 2pm.

FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD: Apart from first-rate wines ripe for the sampling and exciting activities, the celebration offers plenty of delicious cuisine. The various wine farm restaurants in the region will put forth a spread of their signature dishes, many of which have been made with the very grapes cultivated in their vineyards.

SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS: And, to complete the family-friendly event, the fiesta offers a host of kiddie activities at the kids’ zone (there is a nominal entry fee). Little ones can expend their boundless energy on the carnival rides, grape stomp and the go kart track.

TICKETS FOR THE 2016 FEAST OF THE GRAPE WINE FESTIVAL

Tickets are available online via Webtickets.co.za or at the door on the day, and will cost R120p/p, which includes a wine glass and tasting coupons.
