Cycle in the City |
Regardless of your age or cycling aptitude, get your lycra shorts on for a ride to remember! Whether you want to cycle or spectate, the Engen Cycle in the City Festival is speeding into town once more on Saturday, 7 November 2015 at the Cape Town Stadium, with a jam-packed itinerary featuring star stunts, top musical acts, extreme sports and rocking races.
If you want to be a spectator at this awesome event, register for a FREE TICKET via Webtickets.com!
Traversing down to our pretty city from the sunny streets of Durban (the Durban sect of the fest took place on Saturday, 12 September 2015), the Cape Town leg includes the brilliant and awe-inspiring antics of Danny MacAskill’s ‘Drop and Roll’ Show, along with musical performances by Jimmy Nevis and SAMA award-winners Mi Casa.
Not quite ready to get into gear yet? Here are five reasons why you should!
5 REASONS TO GO TO THE 2015 ENGEN CYCLE IN THE CITY FESTIVAL IN CAPE TOWN
DANNY MACASKILL HAS MAD SKILLS: Having dazzled European audiences, Danny’s four-piece ‘Drop and Roll’ team will be performing their gravity defying tricks live at the event. Watch them do things with a bike that you wouldn’t have believed were possible as they slip, slide, twirl, jump and fly between obstacles in slick synchrony, taking extreme trial bike tricks to a whole new level! Remember, you will need to book your complimentary ticket to this show in advance via Webtickets.co.za as spots are limited and it’s going to be a popular act.
IT’S A RACE FOR EVERYONE: Engen Cycle in the City is a criterium race festival with a wonderful range of races suited to everyone, whether you’re six and on a tricycle or a silver fox with a need for speed. Each criterium race takes place on a 1.5km city street circuit and most race categories are divided according to age and/or skill level with kiddies riding on a short 500m circuit. There’s also considerable prize money up for grabs for some of the race winners, just in case you needed that added incentive to start training.
BIG BEATS AND ADRENALINE WILL COLLIDE: Home-grown heartthrob, Jimmy Nevis will be delighting groupies, alongside SAMA award-winning band Mi Casa. Born and raised on the Cape Flats, Nevis is a South African success story, having produced hit after hit including ‘Elephant Shoes’, ‘Heartboxing’ and ‘7764.’ Johannesburg-based Mi Casa has a resume of similar ilk, with local and international single sensations ‘These Streets’ and ‘La Vida.’ Cyclists and spectators can look forward to a rocking jol bound to get the blood pumping and the toes tapping.
LOTS TO DO FOR THE LITTLE ONES: Kids will be amply provided for with multiple activities to keep their minds and little bodies busy. A number of races have been designed especially for boys and girls ranging in age from six to sixteen, including the Scooters & side-wheels, Mini Me’s, and Minions races. Aside from fun cycling events, little ones can also take part in the kiddies’ carnival, with plenty of fun and games on offer.
IT’S A SPECTATOR SPORT: With big name musical acts, exciting races, the ‘Drop and Roll’ trick show, gourmet food trucks, a kids’ carnival and more, you don’t need to be a cyclist to enjoy this auspicious affair! If you are planning to watch from the side-lines then make sure you reserve your complimentary spectator ticket via Webtickets.co.za.
