The annual global Day of Remembrance falls on Friday, 11 November 2016, and is celebrated by member nations of the Commonwealth to pay tribute to the soldiers who died in the two World Wars. This year the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital will honour its founders on the Day of Remembrance, and you’re invited to lay a wreath or bouquet of flowers for a loved one at the event.
The hospital was started 60 years ago when World War II servicemen and veterans donated two days of their pay to fund a living memorial of their fallen comrades. This living memorial became a world-class children’s hospital that is now a leading institute for paediatric healthcare on the African continent.
The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital treats over 250 000 kids every single year, and this is made possible by the goodwill of donors. The spirit of giving that inspired the founding war heroes to start the hospital, is now what keeps it operational and up to the international standards of child healthcare, with some of the most advanced technology and equipment on the continent.
Join the Children’s Hospital Trust at the event, and commemorate our past heroes whose work still echoes today, giving back childhood to the kids around the country.
ENTRY TO THE 2016 DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AT THE RED CROSS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Entry to the celebration is free, and the memorial begins at 10:30am.
