Conversations invites gay professionals (men and women) to discover new faces, socialize, make new friends and network professionally at its series of monthly functions at upmarket and gay-friendly venues in and around Cape Town. The next event is scheduled for Wednesday, 30 July 2014 at the HQ Restaurant and Bar at Heritage Square.
The series of networking events is the only one of its kind in Greater Cape Town and it aims to promote face-to-face conversations with like-minded members of the pink community, as well as raise funds for charity.
Andrew Howard, the founder, dreamed up the event because he believes it’s important to create a space for gay Capetonians to meet up outside the clubbing scene and to network professionally and socially.
Originally from London, he comes from an NGO background and also had a strong desire to use this networking series to support local charity organisations. “The idea is to support one charity with roughly 50% of the cover fee for six months and then choose the next charity organisation,” he explains.
Andrew emphasises that these get-togethers target the entire LGBT community, and straight visitors are welcome too. No one will be turned away. The open policy extends to age as well – anyone from 18 years old and up is welcome to attend.
The functions are always held on a weekday evening, so people can socialise after work. “I decided to host it during the week, as I wanted to strictly keep it separated from the weekend party scene,” Andrew points out.
Pricing and booking info for the Conversations Gay Business Networking Events
The cover fee is about R120p/p and includes a welcome drink and snacks throughout the evening. While booking is not necessary, Andrew does ask that interested parties RSVP via the Conversations Facebook page.
The event starts at 6pm.
