Cirque Éloize came to South Africa three years ago, but never made it far enough south to our lovely city. This year, from Wednesday, 16 November to Sunday, 27 November 2016, the smash-hit internationally acclaimed production will be showcased at the Artscape Theatre Opera House for your enjoyment.
This production, unlike most before it, is not a stereotypical circus production, it goes much further. Think step-up meets Cirque du Soleil, and prepare for some breath taking talent. Cirque Éloize abandons the old format of a typical circus, and brings it into the modern era with help from a healthy dose of urban dance thrown in.
Set in a vibrant city-scene, this performance mixes acrobats and contortionists with break-dancers and freestylers. This original fusion also features eye-catching video projection sets and a one-of-a-kind video ‘trampowall’ (trampoline wall).
The name of this Cirque Éloize edition is iD, which alludes to its main themes of iDentity, indiviDuality and autonomy in a cultural environment where omnipresent symbols can cause a loss of ‘reference points’.
