Cape Town Corporate Games

The big boys and girls of business take their teams out of the office and onto the sports field

Ditch those indoor shoes for takkies and up the spirit quotient at the Cape Town Corporate Games, a weekend-long Olympics for bosses and their employees, from Thursday, 3 to Sunday, 6 September 2015. The official host of this annual event is the V&A Waterfront; though, the various sporting activities are spread out across several Mother City venues.

The multi-sport festival invites corporate teams of any size and kind – employees, board members, clients, suppliers, retirees, family and friends – to participate in a selection of fun sports, like action cricket, lawn bowls, netball, soccer and table tennis, that are suitable for all ages and skill levels. The athletic face-off is not only an opportunity for participants to build camaraderie, loyalty and spirit outside of the office, but a chance for businesses and organisations to get their employees fit and active with a healthy dose of physical excursion and competition.

The sporting weekend kicks off with an opening celebration and in between all the running and jumping and throwing, there will be opportunities for socialising and networking amongst the usually suited-up members of the business world. The four-day fun fest also presents multiple chances for branding and ends with a big party and a closing awards ceremony.

Since its inception in San Francisco in 1988, the Corporate Games has been staged in around 30 countries worldwide, including Australia, India, Mexico and Turkey, promoting sport, business and tourism as well as fitness, team spirit and togetherness at every level.

STEP-BY-STEP REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR THE 2015 CAPE TOWN CORPORATE GAMES

  • Consult the right parties to ensure the company is committed to participating.
  • Make preliminary decisions about the number of employees taking part and the sports you’d like to enrol for (there is no limit on the number of individuals a company can enter, but each athlete can only participate in one of the 16 sports).
  • Contact the Corporate Games office on +27 (0) 21 790 7844 or at capetown@corporate-games.com to open your corporate account. You will need to provide them with your business’s invoice details and make payment in full.
  • Once you’ve finalised your participants and the sports they will be playing, download entry forms from the Corporate Games website (Corporate-games.com). The deadline is still to be confirmed. Alternatively, a representative from the company can collect the forms from you personally. Bear in mind that certain sports will fill up quickly, so the earlier you secure your places, the better.
  • Start training for the games and preparing banners, kits (all team members should be dressed the same) and other branded paraphernalia.
  • On Thursday, 3 September 2015, meet with every member of the team at the SuperCentre, which is located at GrandWest Casino, to register in person. Registration takes place between 4pm and 9pm, and athletes must bring along their registration guide (this will be sent to participants prior to the day).
  • Once registered, simply arrive at your games on time and enjoy!
