Cape Town Concert Series at the Baxter Concert Hall

Add a sweet melody to the end of your summer with these stirring and soulful performances

The Cape Town Concert Series gracefully swings onto the stage with five performances set to take place over the next five months. All of the concerts will take place at the Baxter Concert Hall on Saturdays at 8pm, except for the last one (in June) which will be a matinee concert at 3pm. For more information, email info@ctconcerts.co.za or phone +27 (0)21 439 7663.

The opening concert on Saturday, 20 February 2016 will feature award-winning British violinist Jack Liebeck and pianist Amandine Savary with recitals of sonatas by Debussy, Beethoven (Spring in F), Brahms (no. 3 in D minor) and Lalo (Romance-Serenade and Guitare). Liebeck has performed solos on the soundtracks to movies such as Jane Eyre (2011) and Anna Karenina (2012).

On Saturday, 19 March 2016, cellist Amanda Forsyth and pianist Annaline Ball will soothe your eardrums with a selection of works (including a magical piece by Amanda’s father, composer Malcolm Forsyth) and compositions by Alexina Louie, Schumann, De Falla, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Forsyth began playing the cello when she was three years old, and went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York.

The third concert in the series will happen on Saturday, 16 April 2016, with a fundraising recital by Ammiel Bushakevitz of works from his latest award-winning album. The proceeds will go to the Cape Town Concert Series Kramer Jubilee Trust.

The next concert, on Saturday, 21 May 2016, will feature Beethoven String Quartets performed by talented violinists David Juritz and Suzanne Martens, violist Karin Gaertner and cellist Peter Martens. Juritz is widely regarded as one of the most versatile violinists from the United Kingdom, as he divides his time between solo performances, chamber music, directing, and leading some of the finest European orchestras.

The final concert will be a 3pm matinee on Saturday, 11 June 2016. Expect to hear the melodies of Beethoven (Kreutzer Sonata), Brahms, Sarasate and Tchaikovsky (Souvenir d’un lieu cher), performed by Hungarian violinist Kristóf Baráti and pianist Bryan Wallick. Baráti has been playing the violin since the tender age of five, and at just eleven years old, he was given his first international invitation to Montpellier.
