Bitcoin Africa Conference in Cape Town

Vinny Lingham chats about how cryptocurrency could boost your business at this inaugural event.

If you’re in any way connected to the entrepreneurial and business world then you’ve undoubtedly heard of Vinny Lingham. The popular Dragon’s Den: South Africa judge will be delivering the keynote address at the prestigious Bitcoin Africa Conference, which is being held at the Atlantic Imbizo Conference and Function Studio at the V&A Waterfront on Thursday, 16 and Friday, 17 April 2015.

If you’ve ever wondered what exactly digital currency Bitcoin is and how you can use it to boost your business then this conference is for you. Add to its educational component the high calibre of its speakers, and attendance becomes extremely desirable for those self-starters seeking to succeed.

WHO IS VINNY LINGHAM AND WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED TO HEAR HIM SPEAK?

Part man, part dragon, Lingham co-founded Gyft, the digital gift carding service, and joined global giant First Data in 2014. As Gyft was one of the initial e-commerce companies to adopt Bitcoin as a payment method in partnership with BitPay, Lingham’s longstanding relationship with the digital currency makes him an ideal candidate to educate others on its benefits.

His additional noteworthy endeavours include co-founding Clicks2Customers and Yola, along with establishing the Silicon Cape Initiative. Oh, and then he went on to star on South Africa’s take on beloved TV hit Dragon’s Den. Suffice to say he’s got a pretty impressive CV and plenty of savvy insights to share.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE BITCOIN AFRICA CONFERENCE

The conference aims to equip individuals with the tools they need to decipher the cryptic nature of the cryptocurrency. Furthermore, the event will educate attendees on what exactly Bitcoin is, how it can best be used to your company’s advantage, and its various applications and trends. Recently, many start-ups such as BitPesa in Kenya have enjoyed increased interest and financial support, proving that opportunity for investment is rife.

Aside from this, the conference also provides an enticing chance to mingle with some seriously sharp business minds, both local and international. With a mix of delegates from the UK, USA and various African countries such as Kenya and Botswana, prepare to hand out those business cards and chat to people across influential retail and financial fields.

Other speakers include:

  • Brock Pierce: Co-founder of Tether, CEO and co-founder of BitPesa Elizabeth Rossiello, and Bitcoin Foundation board member.
  • Daniel Schwartzkopff: Managing Director  and  Founder of BetVIP, the world's first licensed Bitcoin sportsbook at BetVIP.com.
  • Elizabeth Rossiello: CEO and Co-Founder of BitPesa.
  • Jonathon Smit: Managing Director & Founder of PayFast.
  • Lorien Gamaroff: Founder and CEO of Bankymoon / Technical Director of Invirohub and the Professional Development Institute.
