Back to School Game Party at the Bandwidth Barn

Bring your A-game to the party and help raise funds for a worthy tech-education cause

Education and technology are rapidly changing, and they are becoming heavily reliant on one another. New leaps in technology have meant that blackboards and those old overhead projectors are almost redundant, and new ways of learning are being developed rapidly. Now, computer gaming can be seen as a learning medium that will spark interest and add an element of fun to the process. This is where 67Games steps in.

The ‘edugaming’ company will host the Back to School Game Pop Up, a game installations party, at the Bandwidth Barn in the Woodstock Exchange on Saturday, 23 July 2016. This fundraising gaming pop up party aims to raise money for 67Games, who reach out to under resourced schools in the country, and provide them with educational games. They work alongside local NGOs and international game developers to create computer games that will enhance the learning process for underprivileged young learners.

To beat the end-of-holiday blues, bring your kids to join 67Games at this party, where they can dive in and test their skills on the various consoles, arcade machines, iPads, big-screen projectors and more. There will be milkshakes and juice to quench the strongest thirst, and popcorn and snacks to quell the deepest hunger. You and your energetic children will be able to interact with other excited attendees for five hours at this fundraiser, so grab some tickets now to avoid missing out.

As part of their 2016 Mandela Day campaign, 67Games is hoping to create 67 different learning games and prototypes that can be distributed and tested around the country. On Youth Day, 120 children test-played the collection of games in Khayelitsha, and the event was met with enthusiasm and awe from the kids – meaning that the success of educational technology in South Africa is probable.

Tickets to the party can be purchased online via Quicket.co.za, and cost R100p/p. An additional fee of R5 is required when purchasing tickets via Quicket.  Further donations to 67Games can also be purchased for R89p/p. The party begins at 11am and ends at 3pm.
