Initiated in 1987 as a fund raising activity for the Clifton Lifesavers, the Clifton Challenge has developed into a highly anticipated event on the December holiday calendar.

Incorporating a touch rugby tournament, flags challenge, tug-of-war as well as various other strength and fitness tests, not forgetting the Clifton New Face Search contest.

To date players such as Corné Krige, Breyton Paulse, Joe Van Niekerk and Percy Montgomery have taken part in the event.
