Full moon night cycle through the bustling streets of Cape Town
Saturday mornings on Long Street at Rcaffé
Cheap, all day breakfast on Long Street
On Saturday mornings a good breakfast in the Cape Town CBD is hard to find. Most cafés and coffee shops are locked up tight. Not Rcaffé, this coffee shop cum restaurant on Long Street serves a bang-up brekkie all day long.
If you’re a traditionalist, try the Farmers Breakfast: crispy bacon, beef chipolatas, mushrooms with fried tomato and a slice of freshly baked seed loaf and three eggs cooked to preference. For a touch of indulgence (it is Saturday morning after all), treat yourself to the Eggs Benedict: an English muffin topped with crispy bacon, soft poached eggs and creamy hollandaise sauce.
Ultimatey though, no matter your whim nor your taste, you’re bound to find something delicious. The breakfast menu is large and varied, from fry-ups to more creative offerings, such as the Ricotta Omelette Sandwich: an omelette filled with ricotta cheese topped with tomato, fresh rocket and pesto vinaigrette served on herb bread.
Not so hungry? Try the cheekily named Breakfast Quickie: rashers of crispy bacon, plus two eggs served with seed loaf, there’s also a vegetarian option, just replace the bacon with avocado, basil and feta.
There are not only cooked breakfasts on offer, but fresh pastries too, which are whipped up daily in the coffee shop’s bakery. Generous croissants come filled with dark Belgian chocolate and mixed berry for the sweet-tooths, or piled high with bacon and egg for those who prefer a savoury option.
And of course, it’s more than suggested – it’s expected - that you pair your breakfast with a cappuccino made from the restaurant’s house coffee - a blend of 100% Arabica made with Ethiopian, Indian, and Brazilian beans. Though if not a fan of the caffeine fix, try one of the health juices; owner Julian Segall recommends the Energy Bomb, an icy blend of berries, banana, ginger, yogurt, and cranberry juice.
What’s more, if you come after 11am, you can let loose with a glass of bubbly alongside the perfect Cape Town brunch. Either try one of the delicious main meals on offer, or get stuck into one of the all-day breakfasts.
Saturday mornings are not just for lying in, but for enjoying a delicious, cheap breakfast in the heart of Cape Town.
