The South African public holiday of Good Friday takes place the Friday before Easter Sunday, and commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
Interestingly, every Easter weekend more than three million church members from all around South Africa gather at the headquarters of the Zion Christian Church in the Limpopo Province to celebrate Good Friday. South African roads leading to Limpopo become very jammed around Easter weekend, from Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Family Day (new name of Easter Monday).
