Full moon night cycle through the bustling streets of Cape Town
Friday Happy Hour Restaurant Special at Five Flies
Leave the workweek behind at this buzzing city centre bar and bistro
Send off the daily grind with the decorum it deserves at one of Cape Town’s oldest and most iconic city centre restaurants, Five Flies. Daily, from 3:30pm to 7pm, the CBD national monument – it’s just steps away from Long Street - invites nine-to-fivers, as well as those simply in need of a dop, to slough off their corporate shackles and to unwind with a happy hour special amidst the tangible history of the former Keerom Street bank.
Worker bees can set the early evening abuzz with top-notch drink deals and discounts: a selection of South African bottled beers and tots of assorted whisky go for R12 each, and house wine (Fairview Sauvignon Blanc, Brampton Chardonnay and Shiraz, Beyerskloof Pinotage, Groote Post Old Man’s Blend and Landskroon Cabernet Sauvignon) goes for R18 a glass.
Handsome wood panelling, marble staircases, sumptuous leather couches and black and white Jazz Age flooring set the scene at the cosy cigar lounge and bar, while an airy courtyard – it adjoins the two buildings comprising the restaurant – offers up a lighter, less formal after-work drinks experience.
So pick your poison and settle in; regardless of where you make yourself comfortable, you’re guaranteed an enjoyable and affordable happy hour. Not to mention, if you start feeling a bit peckish, the 200-seater restaurant has space aplenty to accommodate groups both large and small.
Though, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a starter portion or two from your perch at the bar. Five Flies dishes up delectable entry level options like Steamed Mussels with Coconut, Lemongrass and Lime Leaves; Crisp Fried Calamari with Sweet Paprika, Pickled Jalapeno Salad and Parsley Aioli; and Beef Carpaccio with Roasted Butternut, Pickled Pumpkin Seeds, Wild Rocket and Warm Rosemary Oil.
And of course, revellers are always encouraged to stay on for dinner.
