Bob Geldof in South Africa - The Mind, The Music, The Icon
Bob Geldof is probably better known for organising Live Aid & Live 8 than being a musician, but the guy who wrote the indestructible 'I Don't Like Mondays' is headed to South Africa for a concert tour

The musical pioneer & renowned humanitarian is in Johannesburg on Apr 26 at The Sandton Convention Centre & at Cape Town's International Convention Centre on Apr 28. Sir Bob & his band will be performing hits from the Boomtown Rats & his solo career, as well as sharing his experiences.

In 1984, Geldof turned full-blown activist after seeing a BBC report on the famine in Ethiopia. Co-writing the song 'Do They Know It's Christmas? with Midge Ure (from Ulravox), Geldof put together a group of 40 British pop musicians under the name Live Aid. The single was released just before Christmas in 1984, with the aim of raising money for the relief of famine.

The single led to the mammoth twin charity concerts known as Live Aid, held in London & Philadelphia on Jul 13,1985. For organising the biggest fund-raising concert ever, Geldof was awarded an honorary knighthood in 1986.

More recently, Geldof helped organise Live 8 in 2005, a day of concerts in 10 cities around the world, urging leaders of the G8 to forgive African debt & increase aid to the continent.
