You have 67 precious minutes to give to honour our Tata Madiba – where will you help out this year? If you haven’t decided then maybe you should consider lending a hand to Rape Crisis on Saturday 16 July 2016, from 11am until 3pm. The group will be putting together Care Packs for rape survivors, which you can help assemble whilst listening to director Kath Dey talk about the excellent work the organisation is doing.
Rape Crisis is present at each of Cape Town’s four forensic units, where they provide essential support to survivors reporting rape offences. After opening a criminal case docket and undergoing counselling and a forensic full body investigation, the survivor has the opportunity to shower and receive a Care Pack, which contains toiletries and personal items.
It’s these care packages that volunteers will assist with assembling, and there’ll be an opportunity to write a personal message to the recipient and to create something special as a gift in the creative corner. A rape survivor will address volunteers on the day in what promises to be a moving and educational experience. If you can’t make it, you can also sponsor a Care Pack by visiting Rapecrisis.org.za/act.
