The IFBB South African Championships muscles its way back onto the bodybuilding calendar this spring from Thursday, 11 to Saturday, 13 September 2104 at the GrandWest Casino to crown the best of the brawny in a number of categories.
The contestants who emerge on the top of the pecking order will go on to represent South Africa in world competitions.
Athletes have been competing across the country in the Provincial Championships to make the cut – so it’s guaranteed that only the best adrenaline-pumping bodies will be there to flaunt their physiques and flex their muscles. But this doesn’t signal a small turnout; over 400 bronzed bodybuilders are expected to strut their stuff in the grand overall title face-offs!
While the first two days of the tournament are reserved for pre-judging, day three will be the action-packed, nail-biting main event.
Attendees should also note that while day one (Thursday, 11) will feature the junior, ladies and master categories, day two (Friday, 12) promises the judging of the men’s classic bodybuilding, men’s athletic physique and senior men divisions. Both days will kick off at 9am (doors open at 8am) and run until 3pm.
For the main event (Saturday, 13) spectators can look forward to seeing the cream of the proverbial crop from each category compete for one of six champion spots (one per respective heat). Day three cracks off at 2pm (doors open at 1pm) and runs until 9pm.
And for those aspiring athletes, there will also be supplement stalls, fitness gear and more just outside the arena to help get those sporting juices flowing.
*Attendees are also welcome to attend the weigh-ins, which will take place at 5pm on Wednesday, 10 September for the junior, ladies and master categories and 5pm on Thursday, 11 September for the men’s classic bodybuilding, men’s athletic physique and senior men divisions. Weigh-ins determine the subsidiary (weight) groups for each category.
