Top 5 things to do at Whisky Live 2011

The FNB Whisky Live Festival

We chatted to Niel Hendriksz, the South African brand ambassador for Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky, to find out his top five things to do at the Whisky Live Festival (2-4th November 2011).

1. Take a look at Glenmorangie Pride 1981. Our most luxurious creation to date, which has been imported especially for the event. The bottle costs around R30 000 and there are only 1000 in the entire world so it’ll probably be your only chance to see it. The stunning crystal decanter and wooden case were specially commissioned and created by two leading European artists. Glenmorangie Pride 1981 is 28-years worth of passion, patience and artistry; matured for 18 years in American Oak casks, and then extra matured in sauternes casks, from the world’s finest wine producer, Chateau d’Yquem for a further ten years.

2. Explore the Pick n Pay Canapé and Whisky Pairing Zone. Let international food and whisky guru Martine Nouet show you how to pair whisky with canapés.

3. Don’t miss the Ardbeg stand. Experience the Ultimate Islay Malt from ‘Whisky Island’ just off the west coast of Scotland. Ardbeg is known as one of Islay’s most robust and powerful malts with its peaty taste.  Situated on the beautiful south-east coast of the island, founded in 1815, this was once a notorious haunt of whisky smugglers.

4. Meet world famous whiskey experts. Introduce yourself to my co-host Karen Fullerton in the Glenmorangie Private Tasting Room for a truly international whisky education. She’s the global brand ambassador, all the way from Scotland. We will be tasting spirit from our 1st and 2nd fill American Oak Casks to see and discuss what each fill will add to the final marriage.

5. Get involved. Join in with the fun, interactive workshops, such as the Art of Cocktail Making Zone, where you can create all kinds of whisky cocktails, or the Art of Blending Zone, where you can blend and name your own unique whisky. And for the ladies, shopping can be enjoyed at premium lifestyle stands including luxury jewellery and tastings of whisky liqueurs are on offer all over the hall.

A variety of ticket options will be available for purchase via the website - www.whiskylivefestival.co.za . For more information please visit the website or e-mail contact@whiskylivefestival.co.za
