George, nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, is well known as the friendly business town of the Garden Route region.

The town is situated half a days drive from Cape Town as well as Port-Elizabeth, just inland from the coastline of the Garden Route.

You can visit George either when en-route from Mosselbay to Wilderness, or if you’re coming from inland Oudtshoorn towards the Garden Route.

When visiting George, don’t expect a balding humourless middle-aged man, but rather a place of sun, sea, sand, forests, game parks, lakes, magnificent scenery and a strong Xhosa culture.

George also boasts the luxury Fancourt estate and golf club with the Outeniqua and the Montagu golf courses, and The Links as well as the Bramble Hill Golfcourses added more recently.

Some popular annual events to look forward to in George include the First National Festival of Golf, The George Cheese Festival, The Hops Festival as well as the extremely popular International Sevens Rugby Tournament.
