Somerset West is the heart of the Helderberg Basin, close to the seaside town of Gordon's Bay and a 45 minutes from Cape Town via the N2.

Somerset West was named after Lord Charles Somerset and is situated 6km inland from the False Bay coast and the holiday towns of Strand and Gordon's Bay. Somerset is home to the famous Morgenster Estate and wine estates such as Vergelegen, which was originlly founded by the son of Simon van der Stell. The wine route of Stellenbosch is just around the corner.

Somerset West is popular amongst the older German and Dutch holiday makers, wine lovers and golf fanatics. Somerset offers three golf courses, including the renowned Erinvale Golf Course.
