The Flagship Restaurant at Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront Does Braais and Buffets in a Big Way
A vegetarian at this event? That’s a missed steak
Indeed, no summer weekend in Cape Town is complete without a braai. Tobago’s Restaurant and Bar hosts a Friday Braai Night that gets it right in a big way. Running from Friday, 3 November 2017 until the last week of April 2018, this seaside eatery, found in Radisson Blu Waterfront, serves grilled meat, coupled with live entertainment and spectacular sunsets.
Step onto the terrace at Tobago’s and it is possible that all your troubles will wash away. The restaurant is splendidly located along the shore and offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain. Arrive at 6pm on a Friday and the scent of the sea will be infused by the deliciously rich, smoky smell of meat on the grill as Tobago’s famous Friday Braai Night gets underway.
Tobago’s Friday Braai Nights kick off with a cold selection of cheeses, toasted seeds and nuts, pickled fish, more than five different salads, soup of the day, and a selection of breads. Bring a big appetite because the main course is a belly buster. Imagine a buffet of succulent beef steaks, tender lamb chops, juicy boerewors, mouth-watering chicken and apricot skewers, braised ostrich neck, and tasty beef kebabs with mustard marinade. Traditional braai side servings like mielies (corn on the cob) with melted butter, pan-fried vegetables, pap (maize meal prepared the customary South African way, usually on an open fire), savoury rice and baked potatoes with roasted rosemary, will be served too.
As if that’s not enough, there are 11 different desserts to round off the meal including some South African classics like milk tart, koeksisters and malva pudding.
No braai is complete without a little background music. The seaside eatery sets up a stage where live music plays throughout the evening.
The extent, quality and diversity of this self-service spread is marvellous. Tobago’s chefs take ‘the buffet’ to an extraordinary level by combining it with one of South Africa’s favourite ways of enjoying food, summer and the great outdoors – the braai.
