Snorkeling with Seals on the Peninsula

Up, Close and Personal with the Cape seals

We do enjoy telling you about the attractions and tours in Cape Town in 'that special way', but what we love the most is letting you in on those lesser-known things that are difficult to discover if you're not visiting CapeTownMagazine.com!

Diving or snorkeling with South African Fur Seals on Cape Town's Peninsula is an incredible day tour in Cape Town, and no experience is needed.

This tour is for tourists, backpackers and locals in Cape Town that love to have a great half day snorkeling tour, discovering these incredibly playful animals, it's truly up close and personal!

You will be picked up from wherever you are staying, or you can use your own transport to get to the launch location, which is either on the False Bay side or the Atlantic Ocean side.

Then the excitement of the Cape Peninsula tour
slowly starts; wetsuits, flippers, snorkels and young bearded dive fanatics are ready to get you geared up, and slowly it starts to become serious... "Wow, in an hour I will be in the middle of loads of seals.. how close will I get...?" you may ask yourself.
Believe us, the seals are as curious as you and literally circle around and look at you while lurking upside down in the water.

Then at the Houtbay launch place, Daffy Duck, an enormous rubber duck with 85 horsepower engines is smiling at you. Sun-glassed crew and dive masters await you for a beautiful boat ride, taking your small group to Dungeons and its Seal Island. There they are!

A large number (more than hundreds!) of South African Fur Seals (or Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus for experts..) await your attention - so take the plunge!

You dive in, the seals dive with you, you go left, the seals go left. It really feels these playful animals were just waiting for you to come and play. What a day tour to remember.

It doesn't stop there. Red Roman, Zebra, Hottentots, Black tails, trepie's (big shoals), Octopus and small sharks like pyjama and shy sharks could be seen on this encounter. It's safe in Cape Town. No Great Whites. Just great playful seals.
