The introduction of a fresh concept, expected to be officially launched at the end of this year, will bring the Cape winelands right to the doorstep of Gauteng, where some 50% of all wines in the country is consumed.

Cellar d'Or, the new premier wine destination, to be launched in Sunninghill, has also acquired a black economic-empowerment company as its partner. African Access International (AAI) now has a 26% stake in Cellar d'Or.

The Cellar d'Or lifestyle development in Sunninghill will showcase wines from 45 of the Cape's top wine-producers and will feature private and corporate cellaring opportunities, a wine academy, winery, restaurants and entertainment. The lifestyle concept is the first of its kind in South Africa and will include a fully-functional winery, several restaurants, a Harrods-type delicatessen and an amphitheatre for entertainment.

In terms of the membership ratings, the private cellars will be tiered into categories broken up into platinum, diamond gold and silver. Being a member of the wine club offers privileges including regular wine tasting and access to the private lounge areas for entertainment.
